In September 2015 BGF hosted its fourth annual Portfolio Event.
More than 200 chief executives and chairman of BGF-backed companies – across all sectors and UK geographies – gathered in London to make connections with like-minded entrepreneurs and business leaders, and share their knowledge and experiences.
The day started with a warm welcome from BGF’s CEO Stephen Welton, followed by an inspirational key note speech by former (multiple) Olympic rowing medallist Greg Searle MBE, and now practice director at Lane4, a consultancy firm specialising in people performance. Greg talked about the importance of “unlearning” - of being open to new ways of doing things and of creating long-standing trusting relationships: two concepts that reflected the aim of our gathering.
A series of breakout sessions covered topics ranging from lean manufacturing to delivering sales growth, exit planning to technology and more.
John Humphrys, presenter on BBC Radio 4’s The Today Programme and Mastermind, joined the evening dinner and answered delegates’ probing questions about politics, life at the BBC…..and if he’s ever considered entering the Big Brother house.
The first BGF portfolio event took place in October 2012 and back then there were just 20 people in the room. This year, there was a ten-fold increase. Next year, who know how many we will be!
