In November 2014, more than 40 Finance Directors from BGF’s growing portfolio gathered in London to share best practice and hear seasoned finance professionals discuss their first-hand experiences of working in small and mid-sized businesses.

The day featured a series of talks and breakout sessions on topics such as growth through roll-out, bolt on acquisitions, expanding into new territories, R&D tax credits, preparing for exit, and more. Paul Viner, former FD of Giraffe Restaurants shared his experiences of working in high-growth businesses, as did Keith Fleming, former FD of Blacks Leisure and Woolworths and now NXD at BGF investee company Rutland Cycling. Meanwhile, providing their views on the most important attributes of an equity-invested Finance Director, panellist Martin Thorp of Narec Capital was joined by Stuart Rose, who is now NXC of two BGF-backed businesses, Trunki and Cass Art.

This is BGF’s second event dedicated to Finance Directors. The event follows the success of our annual CEO & Chairman Day and forms part of our commitment to providing high-level strategic support to the companies we invest in. As BGF continues to work with more and more exciting, growing businesses, we look forward to hosting an even bigger event this year!
